This database contains the number of individuals and households participating in Food Stamps (SNAP) by public assistance participation status. It also provides the average SNAP expenditure per person and per household. Data are not available for all counties in all years. Data reflect January of each year.
The USDA defines active public assistance as SNAP households in which all members are receiving income or benefits from Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or means-tested General Assistance (GA) program. All other SNAP households are considered Non-Public Assistance.
