This database estimates the number of food and beverage establishments per 10,000 persons for the United States, states, counties, cities, and ZIP Codes. Calculations are based on the number of establishments divided by area population.

The number of establishments is based on the U.S. Census Bureau's North American Industry Classification System (NAICS).  Establishment totals for cities reflect the sum of ZIP Codes, i.e., those with geographic boundaries, plus P.O. Box-only ZIP Codes associated with the same city.  In most cases, P.O. Box-only ZIP Codes report zero or negligible numbers of establishments.

Population data are from American Community Service (ACS) 5-Year estimates as contained in the State Statistics database Population Estimates of All Areas by Age, Race, & Gender.  ZIP Code populations reflect associated ZIP Codes Tabulation Areas (ZCTA).  ZCTAs are geographic areas created by the U.S. Census Bureau to represent the approximate area covered by a ZIP Code.  ZCTAs roughly corresponds to a ZIP Code's geographic region but are not exact matches.  For additional information on ZCTAs, see here

Please enter an area.    City estimates per 10,000 persons reflect the number of establishments divided by population estimates from American Community Survey (ACS) 5-Year Estimates. ZIP Code estimates per 10,000 persons reflect the number of establishments divided by associated ZIP Codes Tabulation Areas (ZCTA). ZCTAs are slightly different from ZIP Codes used by the U.S. Postal Service. For additional information on ZCTAs, see here.
